Mike's Ramblings

Well here we are again. Another issue, another month.
As you may have guessed from the title, this is the 13th issue of ERR. I am not superstitious, and so this will not be an unlucky issue (I hope). It seems incredible to me that it is now over two years since I was walking in Richmond Park in London, deciding on the format and content of the 1st issue. It has been great fun putting the subsequent newsletters together, and making new friends along the way. Admittedly I only know most of you via E:Mail, but you seem a friendly bunch, so hopefully we can remain friends.

My own replay gaming has had to take a back seat over the last month or so, due to other commitments. Firstly I had to decorate our spare bedroom, which has turned out quite nice (even the wife likes it). I did however invent a new sports discipline whilst doing the painting. It is called the 'losing your grip on the paint tin, and throwing gloss paint all over the hall carpet and wall' event. It is quite a spectacular event, and very colourful. It involves two parts namely, throwing the paint and, cleaning up the mess in the shortest time possible. The equipment required is a tin of gloss paint and plenty of white spirit. Fortunately my wife and I managed to clean it up in the allotted time, and no evidence of the event now remains.

Secondly my wife and I went away for a few days break in Bournemouth to celebrate our anniversary. It was a nice lazy break and an enjoyable time. Of course, when we got back home, I had to catch up on my E:Mails and paperwork. I also had to clear out the box room, which tends to become the junk room in our house. Whilst doing this I came upon my selection of war games, which had been hiding in the loft. A lot of these are of the solo variety i.e. RAF, Mosby's Raiders and Ambush. I haven't played any of these for a good few years. I have always felt a little uneasy about replaying games that replicate murder and destruction (although I do like 'Ruck and Maul'), but I do find the game mechanisms very interesting. I may try and find some time to have a look at some of these games, along with 'Wings Over France'.

My main gaming objective over the last few months has been to complete my 'Sport of Kings' replay. This I have now done, and there is a full report and stats contained in this issue.

Anyway, I try and keep my ramblings to one screen, and I have just noticed that I am now typing on the last line of the screen, so on with ERR....
